Reviews of nitu “Mrs. Mrs. National Research Technological University Institute of Steel and Alloys Admissions Department

: MISiS Moscow State Institute of Steel and Alloys (MISiS)

National Research Technological University "MISiS" was founded in 1930. Its first name was the Moscow Institute of Steel, since 1962 the university was called the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys, and in 2008 MISiS was awarded the status of a national university.

MISiS is one of the leading technical universities in Russia, which trains engineers and specialists in such areas as metallurgy and materials science, production and processing of metals, development of advanced materials and technologies, resource conservation and ecology, certification and quality management, economics and management and others.

In 2006, the structure of the university was modernized: institutes were formed on the basis of faculties, where, in addition to educational activities, scientific activities are also carried out. Today, MISiS includes 7 institutes, a faculty of distance learning, branches in Novotroitsk, Elektrostal, Dushanbe, Vyksa and Stary Oskol. The university trains highly qualified specialists in more than 30 areas of modern science, engineering and technology.

Admission to MISiS is carried out on the basis of a competition of Unified State Examination points in general education specialized subjects. It is quite difficult to enroll, the passing score is high - from 165 (for the areas of training: “Metallurgy”, “Technological machines and equipment”, “Technosphere safety”) to 246 (“Linguistics”). The competition is not very large - from 1.7 people per place (direction “Materials Science and Materials Technology”) to 6.1 for “Economics”, however, the best of the best applicants are selected for enrollment. For the 2012/2013 academic year, a total of 1,050 budget places were allocated.

MISiS offers preparatory courses for schoolchildren in grades 11, as well as for everyone who wants to prepare for the Unified State Examination in mathematics, physics, computer science, Russian language and social studies. The duration of classes is 6 months - from October to April. Training is paid.
Applicants who have completed secondary or secondary vocational education can prepare for admission to MISiS at the preparatory department of the university. Duration of training - 7 months (from December to June), disciplines studied - mathematics, physics, chemistry, Russian language. When entering the preparatory department, you must pass an interview in Russian language and mathematics. At the end of the course, students take the Unified State Exam or internal entrance exams at MISiS. Training is paid.

All nonresident students studying on a budget basis can get a room in a dormitory on the MISiS campus. The Metallurg dormitory is four 15-story buildings, where more than 2,800 people live simultaneously. Nonresident applicants for the period of entrance examinations can request a room with a daily form of payment only if they provide the original documents to the admissions committee.

There is no military department; full-time students are given a deferment during their studies.

MISiS is one of the largest technical research centers in Russia. The university participates in major international exchange programs, one of the most famous is the Fulbright program, which gives young scientists from around the world the opportunity to receive a grant to conduct research in the United States.
In 2009, the MISiS development program for 2009–2017 was adopted. According to this program, the key areas of research are nanotechnology and new materials, energy-saving technologies, information and telecommunication technologies and others, the development of which is carried out within the walls of the university.

The fact that MISiS ranks 17th in the ranking of the 100 best universities in Russia for 2012 proves the highest level of education received. University graduates are widely in demand in the largest Russian and international companies, such as Metalloinvest, Severstal, Lukoil, Mosenergo, Siemens and others.
